From David Pakman
I don't have a problem with public school teachers being paid and benefited well, just like I don't have a problem with cops, doctors, lawyers, whatever the public service profession that you are talking about. I don't have an issue with those folks being paid well either. We're talking about essential government employees, especially in a city like Chicago with is 3 million people, with a high cost of living.
But at the same time, they are government employees and have to understand that they are there to get rich. If that's what they're thinking about, they should run for office (like in Chicago, for example) or work for a private school. Everyday they're on strike, that's bad for the students whose education they're supposed to care about. Which is something that the City of Chicago also has to be thinking and worrying about as well.
