From The White House
I don't think Harry Truman was a perfect President and I wish he was stronger on civil and equal rights for all Americans. But he did desegregate the U.S. Armed Forces and he did recognize the State of Israel which gave Jews their own homeland, especially after the holocaust in Europe in the 1930s and 40s.
I have President Truman on a Progressive Page, because he truly was a Progressive. He wanted an America that could work for more Americans and where more Americans could live in freedom. Not just people who were born to wealth. And he's one of our great Progressive President's, if you just look at where the country was when he became President in 1945 and where we were when he left office in 1953.
