JCV Dude: 'Occupy Wall Street and Health Care'

Source:JCV Dude- talking about Occupy Wall Street.
"How long are you willing to work, from school to grave? Pensions? Health care? What's the deal for the future?

The global economic impact of the five leading chronic diseases -- cancer, diabetes, mental illness, heart disease, and respiratory disease -- could reach $47 trillion over the next 20 years, according to a study by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

"This is not a health issue, this is an economic issue -- it touches on all sectors of society," Eva Jane-Llopis, WEF's head of chronic disease and wellness, said in a telephone interview.

Social security is already a topic in the US 2012 elections, what will the next decade bring. Our economic quicksand is deepening as more issues tumble in, we are sinking and need a life line..

From JCV Dude

Occupy Wall Street as least the non or bipartisan aspects of it, are about protesting against Wall Street. And are tired of Wall Street getting bailed out for their bad behavior. And their relationship with the Federal Government and all of the corporate welfare Wall Street gets from taxpayers and the fact that they've seen their profits go up the last ten years. While the rest of the country have seen their income go down. And have decided to take out all of their anger on Wall Street and Corporate America broadly.

The guy in this video (whoever he is) is talking about the austerity measures that were taken in Europe and in America, including as it relates to what we call Social Security, which is our pension insurance system. He makes some good points, but when government's run deficits and debt, someone has to pay that price and cuts have to be made.

If you don't want government running deficits and debt and wasting your money, fire the bozos (to use this guy's word) and replace them with people who know how to manage a government.

George Warm: 'Judge Napolitano's Open Letter to Occupy Wall Street Oct 13, 2011'

Source:George Warm- Freedom Watch with Judge Andrew Napolitano.
"The Judge say all protesters not allow the Democrats to Co-opt the Movement but nite behind three simple demands.

1. End the Federal Reserve Bank.

2, End the Undeclared illegal Wars

3. End the Income Tax and the IRS"

From George Warm

To say Judge Andrew Napolitano telling Occupy Wall Street what their demands should be when it comes to protesting government and our leaders is arrogant, is like saying it snows in Wisconsin in January: I mean the balls of this guy is earth shattering.

OWS for the most part of a Far-Left (or 1960s New-Left) socialist movement in America that seems to hate everything that America is supposed to stand for, who blames wealthy people and corporations for everything that they believe is wrong with America and the world in general. They have almost nothing in common with Libertarians whether you're talking about Andrew Napolitano or anyone else.

These demands from Occupy Wall Street are coming not from the Democratic Party or its leadership, the White House or Congress, but coming from the Far-Left flank of the Democratic Party and the Far-Left in the country. The democratic socialist movement in America. Democratic Socialists USA , Green Party, Ralph Nader's movement and others. People who are anti-American capitalism, anti- free enterprise, anti-for profit, etc. And have set out their anger on Wall Street, who they feel is the center of American capitalism.

MSNBC: Rachel Maddow Show- Paul Krugman: 'Why The Flat Tax Fails'

Source:MSNBC- Left-Wing economist Paul Krugman, on the Rachel Maddow Show.
"Rachel Maddow Why a flat tax fails"

From MSNBC

One of the few times I’ve ever gotten an opportunity to agree with left-wing economist Paul Krugman on anything, is where he appeared on the Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC to talk against the middle class tax hike, also known as the flat tax.

“Paul Krugman, Nobel Prize-winning economist and columnist for the New York Times, talks with Rachel Maddow about why flat tax proposals are a poor solution for America’s economic problems.”

Source:MSNBC- Left-wing economist Paul Krugman on the Rachel Maddow Show.

From MSNBC

Twenty years ago (and I will be nice here) you could accuse so-called Progressive Democrats (Democratic Socialists, in actuality) of being the tax hikers and not just on the wealthy, but on the middle class as well. And thanks to President Bill Clinton the Democratic Party was able to eliminate, or at least scale back that horrible stereotype, because President Clinton cut taxes for everyone and was very fiscally responsible as President.

The tax hike stereotype kept Democrats out of the White House in the 1970s and 80s. But during this presidential campaign of 2011-12, hopefully that stereotype will be switched to Neoconservative Republicans. (As I call them) As it relates to Herman Cain with his 9-9-9 flat tax and now Rick Perry’s flat tax. Because that’s exactly what a flat tax is: a middle class tax hike. Because you would be raising taxes on people paying 10-15% in Federal income taxes, to 18-20%. While people who are currently paying 28-33% in Federal income taxes, would get a tax cut.

RT America: Heather Cirmo & Michael Prysner- 'Occupy Wall Street - Capitalism to blame?'

Source:RT America- Michael Prysner talking to President Vladimir Putin's Russia Today America, about Occupy Wall Street.
"RT (formerly Russia Today) is a state-controlled international television network funded by the federal tax budget of the Russian government.[5][6] It operates pay television channels directed to audiences outside of Russia, as well as providing Internet content in English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, and Russian.

RT operates as a multilingual service with conventional channels in five languages: the original English-language channel was launched in 2005, the Arabic-language channel in 2007, Spanish in 2009, German in 2014 and French in 2017. RT America (since 2010),[7] RT UK (since 2014) and other regional channels also offer some locally based content.

RT is a brand of TV-Novosti, an "autonomous non-profit organization", founded by the Russian news agency, RIA Novosti, on 6 April 2005.[3][8] During the economic crisis in December 2008, the Russian government, headed by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, included ANO "TV-Novosti" on its list of core organizations of strategic importance to Russia."

From Wikipedia

"Occupy Wall Street continues to voice its disdain for the economic system. The movement's voice has gone global and people all over are tired of corporations influencing government actions worldwide.  So who's to blame - Wall Street or Washington? Heather Cirmo, a conservative political commentator and strategist, and Michael Prysner, an Iraq War veteran, help us answer that question."

Is Occupy Wall Street just that or is there more to it? Is this a group of people that just want to voice frustration, or are they looking for progressive change in America? What's clear is that this movement is diverse and not centralized. That it has Socialists, Liberals, and even Libertarians in this movement. So of course they are not united in how to replace what they are against, because these are three different political factions. That all have different approaches and different visions in where they want America to go.

If you want to blame anyone for current state of the economy, look at Wall Street for running all of those big banks and companies into the ground and as a result we've seen millions of American jobs lost in the last few years. And then look at Washington for their lack of oversight of Wall Street and Corporate America, as well as all the borrow and spending that they've done in the last 10 years alone.

Russia Today: 'Thom Hartmann vs Herman Cain- What Those Dreaded Liberals Have Done'

Source:Thom Hartmann- talking about 2012 Tea Party presidential candidate Herman Cain.

From Wikipedia

"Herman Cain says Liberals are out to destroy this country....In my Daily Take - I'll make Herman Cain wish he was out delivering pizzas again."

Thom Hartmann is right in this sense, a lot of the progress that has been made in America has been fought for by Progressives (not exactly Liberals) but people who believe in moving America forward.

Calling Franklin Rossevelt a Liberal is a bit of a stretch. I mean this is a man who didn't give a damn about civil rights, or was even a borderline racist, and as a Liberal myself I find that a bit hard to take. FDR was sure a liberal on foreign policy, but unfortunately was a Nationalist on national security with the detainment camps of Japanese, German, and Italian-Americans during World War II, because of their ethnicity. Nothing liberal about that.

Thom Hartman's problem with liberal and progressive, is that he associates liberal and progressive with everything that government does to move the country forward. That for something to be liberal or progressive, government has to be doing it. And generally that means through new social programs and tax increases or expanding current programs, or passing new regulations or expanding current regulations.

When the fact is the only that Liberals believe in is expanding freedom for everyone, not contracting it, whether that means more or less government intervention. And Progressives believe in progress, whether that means more or less government intervention.

It's Socialists who always believe in more government and that the only way to make society better is for government to be doing more and spending more of the people's money for them. Which is what Thom Hartmann seems to believe, whether he calls himself a Socialist (or even Social Democrat) or not.

The Young Turks: Cenk Uygur- 'Debt Relief For Banks, Not Homeowners'

Source:The Young Turks- Cenk Uygur on government bailouts.

"The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur talks about Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae will screw homeowners."

Wow! I actually agree with The Young Turks on something, or at least Cenk Uygur. Damn, sign me up for a head examination immediately, I must be overdue now.

I agree with Cenk in this sense (and hopefully I didn't misspell that, its only four letter for crying out loud) that the wrong people were bailed out in 2008. The people who blew most of their wealth away, meaning their corporate wealth, I'm sure the people running these company's were doing great personally, but their company's were bankrupt thanks to them. And the people who did business with them, were left bankrupt or drowning in debt as a result of the Great Recession of 2008 and the housing crisis. They didn't get any bailed out and had they did or get bailed out soon, like having the debt forgiven.

The Real News: Paul Jay- 'A Real Challenge to Corporate Power'

Source:The Real News- the U.S. Department of Justice.

"Arthur MacEwan: Opposing bail out of bankers and fighting for Universal Health Plan challenges corporate power."

From The Real News

The problems with TARP of 2008 (or the Temporary Asset Relief Program) is that we borrowed about 800B$ to pay for it, to go on top of a 400B$ Federal budget deficit and a 10T$ Federal debt and we bailed out failing banks we essentially bailed them out for their bad behavior. While the victims of their bad behavior the people who did business with their banks, remained victimized. And three years later they are still struggling from the banks bad behavior.

We bailed out banks that were "too big to fail" first of all we allowed them as a country to become "too big to fail" in the first place. And then we bailed them out for their bad behavior, which is a double-edge sward for the country. We suffered for our government's bad behavior of letting banks become "too big to fail" in the first place. And then we suffered from these banks and their bad behavior.

What we should've done instead is force these banks that are "too big to fail" breakup as a result of becoming too big, as a condition of getting their bailout money, as well as forcing these banks to come up with new management, as another condition of receiving TARP, as well as forcing them to buy Bankruptcy Insurance. So they would never need to be bailed out again at all, because they would have their insurance that they could go to when they are failing.

Firing Line With William F. Buckley: James B Carey- 'Labor Unions and American Freedom (1969)'

Source:Firing Line With William F. Buckley- talking to American labor leader James Carey, in 1969.

"Episode 154, Recorded on June 12, 1969. Guest: James B. Carey. For more information about this program, see:Hoover Institution."

"Mr. Carey, as Mr. Buckley tells us, had, with the help of John L. Lewis, launched a counterattack when his union, the United Electrical Union, had been taken over by the Communists. Host and guest sometimes talk past each other, but even so we get a clear idea of what is at issue between Mr. Carey's notion of "an effective union -- a union that represents the views of the people effectively and can deal with management on a basis of equality" and Mr. Buckley's observation that, in the aftermath of the New York City newspaper strike, "the few who survived ... did indeed get their 10, 15, 20, 25 per cent raises, but a lot of other people who would otherwise have survived, went from let's say $250 a week to welfare."

From the Hoover Institution

One thing I think about when I think of labor unions organized labor, is what working conditions would be like for the American workforce without them. Because with organized labor we have weekends, Social Security, Medicare, Minimum Wage, Unemployment Insurance, Cobra, safe working conditions, etc.

It's sort of how I think about Lyndon Johnson a man as a Democrat I have a lot of respect for, without President Johnson, how much longer would African-Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities, have to wait until their constitutional rights were enforced. Probably at least until President Carter. who had a large majority in both chambers of Congress and President Carter being a big believer in civil rights. But did he have the political skills to get civil rights legislation through Congress.

Al Jazeera: Inside Story:- 'Is The Promise of Democracy Fading in Egypt?'

Source:Al Jazeera- talking about democracy in Egypt. They might as well be talking about sunburn in Antarctica, while they're at it.

"Al Jazeera (Arabic: الجزيرة‎, romanized: al-jazīrah, IPA: [æl (d)ʒæˈziːrɐ], literally "The Island", though referring to the Arabian Peninsula in context)[3] is an international Arabic news channel based in Doha, Qatar that is operated by the media conglomerate Al Jazeera Media Network. The channel is a flagship of the media conglomerate and hence, is the only single offering to carry the name as simply "Al Jazeera" in its branding.

The channel's willingness to broadcast no holds barred views, for example on call-in shows, created controversies in the Arab States of the Persian Gulf. One of the station's office was the only channel to cover the War in Afghanistan live."

From Wikipedia

"The country's ruling military council is facing criticism after a violent crackdown on Coptic Christian protesters."

What looked like a real shot at bringing democracy to Egypt and finally ending authoritarian rule in this large country of 80M people, looks like its stagnating, as the military establishment in Egypt has become its effective ruler. And they are starting to have crackdowns on the democratic protesters in Egypt, as well as crackdowns on Coptic Christians in Egypt, a religious minority in Egypt. Instead of returning Egypt to civilian rule.

The Real News: Paul Jay- Interviewing Professor Michael Hudson- 'Occupy Wall Street to a Bank in The Public Interest'

Source:The Real News- OWS taking on American banks
"Michael Hudson: A public option in banking will be a structural answer to the power of finance."

All of these protests on Wall Street that are going on around the country, could be positive for the country. If it leads to real reforms in our economy, that reforms our banking system in a way that we stop bailing out banks and other company's, regulate their bad behavior. And lets them keep a lot of their profits instead of subsidizing them when they are successful. And thats not what we have right now. We have so many tax loopholes, that a lot of our business's end not paying much if anything in taxes like General Electric. But tax them at a rate that allows them to be profitable and encourages them to be profitable.

Russia Today: The Alyona Show- 'Bailout For The American People?'

Source:Russia Today- Reason Magazine writer Anthony Randazzo, talking to Russia Today anchor Alyona Minkovski.

From Wikipedia

"There's a new proposal being floated out there, massive debt relief, it may seem a little radical but some economists argue that it's the only way to get out of this mess. Just think about it, tens of millions of Americans are burdened with mortgages they can't afford, as well as student loan debt, credit card debt....we're a country that likes to charge and pay later. But since the banks got a bailout....could the American people get one too? Reason's Anthony Randazzo weighs in."

From Russia Today

A so-called People's Bailout that the Far-Left in and outside of the Democratic Party pushing, makes sense, in one sense, because they can argue: "We've bailed out Corporate America and the banking industry, now it's time to bailout the middle class and low-income individuals."

I get that in that sense, but I'm not in favor of subsidizing bad behavior, especially at taxpayers expense. I was against the bank bailouts in 2008, because the reason why American banks went under, is because the Bush Administration fell sleep at the wheel, while all of these American companies were making risky (if not irresponsible investments) and came to Uncle Sam to bail them out for their bad investments.

I'm also against bailing out individuals who borrowed too much money in the mid 2000s when the economy was much stronger, thinking that they wouldn't need to pay back those loans or their economic security would be indefinite.

RT America: Christine Frazao- Leftists Fight to Launch Tea Party of Their Own

"
Source:RT America- Left-wing political activist and CNN political commentator Van Jones, speaking at this Occupy Wall Street event.

"Progressives attending a conference called Take Back the American Dream are planning to organize and speak with a more unified voice.  They say they are angry about the rising gap in income inequality, and in corporations being given more power while more and more Americans struggle."

"RT (formerly Russia Today) is a state-controlled international television network funded by the federal tax budget of the Russian government.[5][6] It operates pay television channels directed to audiences outside of Russia, as well as providing Internet content in English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, and Russian.

From Wikipedia

Van Jones had the best line at this whole event when he said he wasn't mad at the Tea Party and the broader conservative movement for being so loud, but he was mad at the progressive movement (as he put it) for being so quiet.

And that's exactly been the problem for Democratic Socialists in America. While the Tea Party has been so loud and been organizing going on three years now, Socialists have been sitting back and staying home. Not going to work, not writing their blogs, appearing on TV and radio shows that are ideologically comfortable for them.

Take MSNBC, PBS and NPR (just to use as examples) and perhaps you picked up another clue there, not voting taking the 2010 mid-term elections where House Democrats lost the House. (Thanks a lot, Socialists) And now we have a Tea Party run House of Representatives.

Thanks to the Tea Party and Democratic Socialists and we actually have to have debates on whether we should close the Federal Government or not or raise the debt ceiling or not. Hearing questions like is Sarah Palin the most influential public figure in America or not. Is Michele Bachmann going to be the next President of the United States or not. All because they believe President Obama is not progressive or socialist enough for them.

Had today's so-called Progressives (Socialists in actuality) did better research on Barack Obama's biography when they all supported him in 2007-08, they would've known that Obama's socialist leanings are very limited. Barack Obama would never ever be confused with Bernie Sanders or Ralph Nader.

Barack Obama is basically a Bill Clinton/Jack Kennedy Progressive Democrat. Not a Henry Wallace Democratic Socialist. That's what he was four years ago and what he is today. As a result of sitting on the sidelines and watching other people come into power, the Tea Party all 70 plus of them in the House the not so Progressives in America have lost influence in the Federal Government.

So its good for the so-called Progressives to finally stand up and get organized behind a movement and an agenda. And hopefully they'll remember to vote in 2012. And they'll organize their own movement that's made up of a bunch of different political action groups. Not one unified organization raising money and recruiting candidates to advance their cause. Democratic Party or they form their own leftist party. Which they have the people for in DSA, the Green Party and the Democratic Party.

There's an old saying that I like a lot, that basically goes like this: "If you don't vote, you don't have the right to complain". And if you sit at home, you watch the world go by without you. And hopefully this is a lesson that the Far-Left are learning right now and will learn from it. And not make the same mistakes in the future.

RT America: Richard Wolff- 'Question Capitalism'

Source:RT America- RT America, is at least partially funded by Vladimir Putin's Russian Federation Government.

RT America (since 2010),[7] RT UK (since 2014) and other regional channels also offer some locally based content."

From Wikipedia

"Recently the Occupy Wall Street movement has gone international. Many believe that these uprisings are a part of a growing concern for a change of governments. What are the real alternatives to current government systems? Will the Occupy Wall Street movement make Americans question capitalism? Richard Wolff, talk show host at WBAI Radio, digs deeper."

From RT America

What we see in these Wall Street protests and these so called Take Back America rallies in Washington,  is Democratic Socialists all across the country from several different political parties. The Democratic Party, the Democratic Socialist Party, the Green Party, the so-called Progressive Party, along with some Libertarians. And perhaps a few Liberals, who are fed up ( for lack of a better term ) in what's going on in Corporate America and in how they see what's going on in Corporate America and in how they believe thats affecting our economy right now.

So-called Progressives ( Socialists, really ) could be able to transform this movement into a political movement and use this political movement to be able to recruit political candidates in the future that will stand up to what they don't like in the Federal Government and Corporate America. And as I blogged a couple nights ago, if they play this right and look like a diverse group of everyday people just looking to work hard, be productive and make good lives for themselves and not look like thugs, terrorists, anarchists, etc.

I don't like this movement's ideas of what they want to see in the future, I mean I'm not a Socialist. I don't want to see the return of 70-90% tax rates. People have to have incentive to be productive. And giving the Federal Government that doesn't do a very good job of managing it's current budget a much bigger role in our economy as well as lives as far as delivering public services. People have to be able to keep a lot from their productivity, thats one thing what American capitalism is about. But I like what this movement is trying to defeat and hope they are successful.

Gate Keeper 50: The Last Word With Lawrence O'Donnell- 'Janeane Garofalo Deflates Andrew Breitbart'

Source:Gate Keeper 50- Janeane Garofalo, the latest target of Alt-Rightist Andrew Breitbart.

"And in this corner, weighing in at very much less than her pompous loudmouth excrement filled opponent, Janeane Garofalo ... and in the other corner, the pompous loudmouth excrement filled Andrew Breitbart."

"Over the weekend, Andrew Breitbart posted a profane speech he gave at a Tea Party conference attacking Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Janeane Garofalo. Many found the language inappropriate, but on tonight’s Last Word, Lawrence O’Donnell took the opportunity to psychoanalyze Breitbart as a little boy who never made it in Hollywood, taking swipes at the “honorable and decent” Garofalo out of envy."

Source:Mediate- The Last Word With Lawrence O'Donnell.

From Mediate

Just to comment on Larry O'Donnell's (as  call him) piece about Andrew Breitbart and Janeane Garofalo: I'm not a fan of Janeane Garofalo either. To me she's the President of the Escaped Mental Patients of America, when it comes to Hollywood, celebrity political commentators. But Andrew Breitbart is probably the Chairman of the Board of that group and about to defeat President Garofalo in their next election, if not through a coup.

Janeane, is the perfect example of why entertainers should stick to entertaining. And Andrew is the perfect example of why political commentators should stick with political commentating. But only because neither of them know what the hell they're talking about when it comes their preferred professions.

The wrongs of the Far Right, where should I start: I would've gone with where to begin but I used that as part of the title of my post, before I saw the Garofalo-Breitbart story . In the interest of originality I chose something else, I hope you like it but I also hope its not your focus of this post either.

So moving on I separate the Far-Right, Alt-Right, or New-Right, from the Center-Right. As I believe any knowledgeable political junky or political analyst would. The Far-Right being the the Rush Limbaugh's, the Michele Bachmann's (a bad company, from my perspective) and others the Christian-Right and New-Right, the Christian Tea Party (as I call them) the authoritarian big government faction of the Republican Party, what the Republican Party didn't use to be.

The Christian-Right and Neo Right (coming to life thanks to what they would outlaw, sex) in the late 1960s, early 1970s, a party that used to be about limited government and anti-big government, until the last 20 years has become about authoritarian big government.

The Christian-Right believes Uncle Sam should be telling people how to live their lives and if they do something or are something that they don't like, they automatically assume that they must have some type of disease. And being the good Christians(that they claim to be) they try to cure them like the Bachmann's and others, or they try to send them to prison, by passing laws making what they are doing, whatever it is illegal even if they are not hurting any innocent people with their activities.

I've just laid out what is wrong with the Far-Right in America: they are Big Government, Big Brother, Uncle Sam impersonators who believe Uncle Sam knows best how everyone else should live their lives and if they do something that not part of their moral code, they try to make it illegal.

The Center-Right (as I see it) the Barry Goldwater Conservative-Libertarians are exactly what is right about the conservative movement in America. But unfortunately with the Republican Party and America as a whole have lost power in this country. They are the opposite of the Far-Right, because they are truly pro-limited government and anti-big government and believe that people should be left alone to live their own lives. As long as they are not hurting anyone else with their freedom.

The Far-Right and Center-Right (as I see it) are the two political factions and part of the same wing of the American political spectrum, but tend to be on the opposite sides when it comes to the Constitution and the role of government in America.

From Wikipedia

"Despite the fact that it's now in its third week, the mainstream media is just finally catching on to Occupy Wall Street, and deciding that it's worthy of coverage. So today, I'd like to highlight another mass movement that's going on in this country, that deserves media attention, and that probably won't get it until maybe a couple of weeks from now, or maybe when the circumstances become tragic. By that I mean the California prison hunger strike."

From Russia Today

The title of Alyona Minkovski's editorial here is: "MSM: CA Prison Hunger Strike" but it takes her 2-1/2 minutes to get into the California prison strike. She spends the first minutes of her piece talking about the lack of mainstream media coverage of the New-Left political movement Occupy Wall Street.

Maybe if Alyona wasn't part of Vladimir Putin's American based, Russian propaganda network Russia Today, she would be part of the mainstream media as well. But I guess not even the Far-Left MSNBC or Democracy Now wants to do business with her.

As far as the California prison hunger strike: this is what happens when you treat grown men like animals, that's how they behave. You could argue that they acted like animals on the streets and are now getting what they deserved being thrown into human cages. But even people serving life without deserve the most basic of human living conditions like decent food, fresh air, clean water, etc. Doesn't mean the most violent of criminal offenders don't need to be isolated from general population, but they have a constitutional right to basic human living conditions as well.

Russia Today: The Alyona Show- Kevin Zeese- 'American Spring? Occupy Wall Street Just The Beginning'

Source:Russia Today- Kevin Zeese, talking to Alyona Minkovski, from President Vladimir Putin's Russia Today.

RT America (since 2010),[7] RT UK (since 2014) and other regional channels also offer some locally based content."

From Wikipedia

"Occupy Wall Street began on Saturday, September 17th and it's still going. Hundreds of people have spent two nights in Zuccotti Park, which they got permission to occupy and sleep in and the area has been dubbed Liberty Plaza. But how long could this really last?  Kevin Zeese, a core organizer of October2011.org weighs in."

Looks to me like Democratic Socialists in America are making it official and that they “are mad as hell and aren’t going to take it anymore”. And their first target is going to be on Wall Street and that they are also going to get help from Libertarians as well. Another political faction that Wall Street is not popular with right now. And that Socialists are looking to start what they call an ‘American Spring’ and have a Socialist Revolution in America. And it looks like the big banks are their first target and getting them closed down.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, what the mainstream media in America, as well as young Socialists called the New-Left (an emergence of young Socialists and Communists in America) emerged to take on American capitalism and Corporate America. Perhaps this is Generation X's and the Millennial's version of their New-Left and they're here to take on American capitalism and Corporate America today.

The Real News: Paul Jay - 'Ontario Elections - Is This All There Is?'

Source:The Real News- debate night in Ontario.

"Sam Gindin: The times cry out for a radical alternative to capitalism"

One thing I like about Canadian politics is that they have real choice in who Canadian voters can vote for. They have real Conservative Party, a real Liberal Party, and a real Social Democratic Party in the New Democratic Party that used to call themselves the Socialist Party. And all three of these parties are very competitive and can make a difference in their Federal elections.

C-SPAN: BookTV- Noam Chomsky on Socialism in 2003

Source:CSPAN- MIT Professor Noam Chomsky, talking about socialism in 2003.
"Noam Chomsky responds to a caller's request for his thoughts on socialism, during a 2003 interview by Brian Lamb, for C-SPAN's "In Depth" program. He describes how socialism was equated with the Leninist model of the Soviet Union by both the USA and its allies on the one hand, and the USSR and its allies on the other."

From CSPAN

"Noam Chomsky, professor of Linguistics at MIT University in Cambridge, MA, talked about his life and career as a political activist and critic of U.S. foreign policy. Among the topics he addressed were efforts to combat terrorism, war with Iraq, and Bush administration economic and foreign policy. He also responded to questions from viewers on the telephone and submitted by fax and electronic mail."

I partially disagree with Professor Noam Chomky here. What he would call socialism, is where the people have a stake in their economic and personal lives and ability to make their own decisions and not be dominated by their employers or government. That's basically what social democracy is and is the dominant political and governmental philosophy in the developed world, outside of America.

But there's also an authoritarian aspect of socialism where you essentially put the state (meaning the national government and party in power) in charge of everything in society, especially the people. And at best in a Communist state like this the people sacrifice their personal and economic freedom to the government, in exchange for their well-being. And at worst which is how communism is generally practiced, the people are essentially slaves to their own government.
